Is there anomosity between the ToL and FoL / i42 Forums communities? If so, how can we repair the relationship?

I don’t remember making that assumption

Also now that I think about it I am directly responsible for a pretty sizable chunk of the state of current ToL

I think it’s fair to say that I have had more influence on the game’s current state than anyone else not directly affiliated with Imperium 42

So :man_shrugging:

Youll have to explain that to Arete
They’re a humble bundler

If you say so. Its obv true in fm, but I havent seen it in tol. To say it frank.

I think you’re dismissing Orange’s suggestions just because they come from him rather than actually considering them on their merits

My goals I’d like to reach with balancing are 100% different.

What are the goals you want to reach with balancing?

This I can agree on

Having fun with each class
Classes should be designed so that their abilities help to reach their wincon
Being diverse in classes, so it doesnt get boring
People should be discouraged from yolo killing/exing without having strong information

I’ll answer this

  • Decrease swing and factors that determine game outcome that are entirely outside of player control

  • Increase focus on social deduction, allowing reads and deductions to inform mechanical decisions, rather than mostly rely on mechanical information to determine player thoughts

  • Increase player retention, long-term enjoyment, and overall player skill by raising skill ceilings

  • Ensure the game remains fun to play by reducing meta-centralizing strategies and introducing ambiguity to situations that benefit from it

  • Compete with other RTSDGs on all fronts, learning from them when necessary but making the game’s differences stand out

Okay I think I can agree with the “metas suck” point
But other than that, thats more goals to better not reach imho

Alright

Looking at each other’s lists, which traits do you actually disagree with (rather than just valuing but not as strongly)?

Never mind I agree with all of these

And the “yolo killing” one is a matter of perspective - I do agree that encouraging random hero shots is bad, but I would argue that clearing the PoE is not “yolo” and therefore not something to be excessively discouraged.

In this case I think the issue is I’m trying to balance like ten things while Priestess is looking at “fun and diverse” from the perspective of a current player who has most of their experience in ToL alone, and so our priorities and viewpoints can differ wildly.

I mean I’m assuming that you don’t actually think player retention and long-term enjoyment are bad :upside_down_face:

Why? I think swing is an important part of the game and shouldn’t be removed at all

Yes, but with hard limitations. Never make mechanics worse just to force the players to use more social.

Increase player retention, long-term enjoyment, and overall player skill by raising skill ceilings

What? Why? I don’t see how last one should help with first ones.

Compete with other RTSDGs on all fronts, learning from them when necessary but making the game’s differences stand out

Don’t know what that is but idc about other games

I don’t see how “making the differences between newbies and vets higher” is helping retention and long-term enjoyment

I know the game. I’ve played 1700 hours. I want the game to be fun for me and fun for my players.
Idc about any game theory

I strongly suspect that the two of you are using different definitions of swing and that this particular point would benefit from some clarification on what each of you mean by it

I could be wrong
