shipping is cool in my book but i think we need to change the language about it, because that language is part of what makes fandoms, particularly anime fandoms, become toxic, and look to me like weird sex cults obsessed around the potent sexual energy of Scantily Clad Mages Who We Swear We Like For Their Personality

like, part of it is that you also have to have an opinion on Is Nowi Acceptable™, which is one of the most tedious bits of recurring discourse on the internet. and i basically think it’s reasonable to extend that to discussions of shipping rather than of the blatant sexualisation of childish characters that haunts anime, because the same effect occurs
if The Controversial Ship™ discussion comes around you have to have an opinion on it because of how shipping is presented. to make things short, that can often be bad, particularly in fandoms with overly sexualised source material.
