and what I want to know is why people care so much? I get the appeal, obviously, because people deeply care for characters, and they want to see those characters be happy in the way that The Allos™ become happy. but there’s this really weird culture around them that it’s hard to put into words without mischaracterising people who get really into shipping in fandoms

i think it’s more that the language around shipping within fandoms paints your choice of which characters enter the Character Fusion Cave From Every Shitty Anime Gacha Game as like your choice of poltiical opinions: if you live here, having them is compulsory, and you get weird looks in some fandoms if you don’t
