Well… for starters, if the questions can only be asked during Night Phase, then this game would have to start with Night Zero.

well, your the host. its not that i have a setup pre-made. its a skeleton frame. you make the decisions as to how you want it to be. if you want there to be a separate phase for questions, or to have questions at day or night, go ahead. i have some opinions already and ill give them if you ask for them, but make no mistake, this is your setup.

A yes/no answer is actually easier than a “A/B/C/etc” multiple choice because players might abuse the system and ask 5 questions with 26 options. (Unless we limit multiple questions to 4 possible answers or something.)
Giving “killing/offensive” as an answer is… well, if you are a flexible host, then knowing when to answer is good and all, but I am not that kind of host, so I don’t think this is a feasible option for me. I think that the simplest yes/no format is the best. (For the host, that is. How the players will tackle this problem is another issue.)

in that scenario, the player has asked some questions on an ability. they know its an investigative ability. they use that on player x. they could be told any of those things as a result of the ability. not as answers to the questions. questions are all yes/no

Chekhov’s Gun. If there is a mechanic, then players will always use and misuse it one way or another. You can’t exactly change the abilities mid-game so one player could have more fun than the other since that would be unfair, so in order to achieve fairness, we need to tweak the abilities so they become balanced.

i was not referring to changing the abilities on the fly. i was saying you could push some things around to make even the competitive players consider the mechanics on d1 if you wished, but that thats not something that is usually that good for a host to do.

I understand that, and I meant for all abilities to be immediately accessible as well, but without knowing what their ability does, the players would risk a possible negative utility on a fellow teammate.

For example: a Town Vigilante shooting a Town, thinking that their 2nd Ability might be a Copcheck.

Another example: a Mafia Vote Eater, eating their scumbuddy’s vote, thinking that it was safe since it did nothing the previous Night Phase.

Oh. I understand. …though, I don’t plan to make the game heavy on mechanics, so the mechanics should be negligible if the players plan to play it as mountainous game.
