Why? I think Mercenary should have power to protect target from all situations, even with limited uses. It sucks if there is nothing you can do.
Making the mercenary less trustworthy is the point. The game revolves around lies, deception, and distrust; right now the Mercenary is too straightforward - easily proving themselves, then having a 100% obvious goal with almost no potential for deviation or added complexities.
I want there to be reasons for Mercenaries to lie, and for the Mercenary and their contract to lie to each other. I donāt think they should be automatically treated as being of the same faction - there should be some room for distrust. I feel that that will lead to more interesting gameplay in the long run.
I also think that most mercenaries will not betray their contract. Itās rare now, even though few people seem to know itās currently against the rules. Thereās already a significant penalty for betraying your first contract, after all - you only get two, and if the second one dies, you lose. Your first contractās death puts you in a very precarious position, so Mercenaries are heavily incentivized to only betray them if they are certain their chances of winning are improved by doing so. I donāt think the penalty needs to be any more severe than that.
Just putting another opinion here this would unbalance the game allot since if you cant make a second contract past day 5 it makes the game unfun for merc players
There is a reason why the Prince is occupy immune and ignores occupy immunity.
@Aquillion The fact that the target isnāt notified of being guarded already makes them a lot less trustworthy. I donāt think even more reasons need to be piled on.
@techwolves How does fun have anything to do with the balance? Anyways, second contract is to prevent target dying n1 and you being screwed. If you have till day 5, you have that safety, while also making it less likely to betray contract number one.
@Lily A poor one I think. Most of the time occupations and executions donāt happen at the same time, so it usually doesnāt come up. Without this, Mercenary is just at the mercy of the Prince, so thatās why they need to still be able to protect. It wonāt come up often, but it helps the Mercenary.
Fun is as important as balence. Any suggestion should be both fun AND balenced to be good.
The thing is that this would backfire. Now instead of just wanting to keep your contract alive for longer so you will have more information about who will win when you have to switch you now have a time limit on replacing them. This means rather than just waiting and taking stock of the situation you replace him immediately JUST IN CASE.
I know, it just gets confusing when people mix them up.
How would you know someone else would survive over your current target? You also lose uses of Stand Guard. In addition, you canāt vote up your contract, so there is no straightforward way to off them.
Baised on how much people trust them and how active they are being.
