You can do that thing where you make a town and scum case for a post and do that for several posts over their ISO and then see which one makes the most sense cumulatively. I usually micro a post, make a stance on it, then move on to the next AI post, make a stance on it etc. and finish up with a macro conclusion of it. Letting gut decide incrementally and ratio the end result. This is a reason why my ISOs typically contain at least one scummy/towny post regardless of my conclusion. You can go fancy and approach that player after the case in a specific way to test your hypothesis on the motivations behind their plays, but I’m more of a LULYOU’RESCUM kind of guy and see later if I’ll need to reevaluate it. They tend to naturally respond after a case after all.
Once you have determined that alignment, you just have to use what convinced you and try and transfer that thought to other town.
Then there are other aspects like votecount analysis, associations, threadstate etc, but most of those are a bigger picture effect of those singular reads and you can apply the same approach.
I do think it’s partly intentional due to lack of self-confidence in pushing your conclusions/gut (but hey consider that into the making a lot of assumptions territorry)
