That sword is terrible and I have been playing it on the hardest difficulty in the arcade version. I played ghosts on the NES though and have been going through that again on the hardest difficulty on the arcade rom

Iā€™m not sure how differemt the Sega megadrive version was, but yeah. If you have the sword on the 4th boss it is a softlock.

Screw the torch as well and the arcade just looks better/sounds better and has more difficulty options through dip switches from mame

I do love how it had ā€˜Practiceā€™ mode which was identical to normal, except the magic boxes werenā€™t as big of arseholes in practice mode

Itā€™s the thing that you can throw in a arc and only have a few on the screen. The best part is that you canā€™t throw more than 2 on the screen and if it hits the ground it takes a few seconds before you can use another one

Situationally it was Ok. It made some bosses easier. And itā€™s super armour ability was great.

The axe was worse imo.

Agreed. Best weapon, followed by the magic fairy stuff if you have super armour. Spear was good and discus situationally better

Many a time there was an enemy that dropped an weapon I didnā€™t want and me trying to figure out how to jump over it

just kill yourself in those situations because to pick up the sword,axe, or torch is worse than death

My record for NES games is actually decent, beaten Castlevania twice (I breezed through the second time), the megaman games several times, ghost and goblins (got the true ending), and beat the Ninja Gaiden series (beat NG1 mostly in one go here recently)
