What is it to be town?
What separates the town from the mafia?

The difference is simple and wide-reaching.

The Mafia have weaker memes. They rely on the weakness of others to drive forth their own agenda, and cannot subsist in an environement of the strong. It is for this that the game of Mafia is only truly perfect around people of varying skills, so that this Mafia can have equal parts difficulty and a stride. If every game consisted of the best, there would be no worse.

The town only needs a single right decision. A single right choice. The rest may follow their word to the end of their days, and still lead to the destruction of the Mafia.

You may call this paradoxical but it is the complete truth.

Why does this man mention memes?

The reason is incredibly simple: the scum will never be able to drive the town’s agenda without at least attempting to prey upon their weaknesses as players.

A meme is an idea, rapidly reproducing.

As social deduction inherently is based upon the psyche, the town will be more receptible to the memes of each other as they share a wincon. A united banner that they cannot see each other under.

This is typically why townreading is easier than scumreading. People can make a consensus through townreads far easier than through scumreads. Scumreading must have a collective reason that can be manipulated through the memes of the informed minority. Their ideas can attempt to skew the consensus just that bit, but any more and the truth shall be revealed.

This is moreover why scum is typically more stressful than town.
Playing a tightrope act that could lead to the failure of not only oneself but also of their compatriots.
