Resolved: Fool is competitive #debate

Someone gets voted up during VFR

they claim third Chrono or something similarly unconfirmed

people are like ‘wow this is super fake’

they get exe’d

How, in these situations, do you suggest BD read between fool and scum?

(This is a question to Arete, possibly rhetorical but not really)

Have a Drunk try to redirect them and see if it works

Or just exe them anyway because Fool isn’t actually that common of a class

Do you consider yourself a good BD player?

And generally speaking what do the best players you know to handle fool or scum scenarios?

To help scum “for real” he must identify scum first. That requires skill.

Presumably, his goal in doing this is to out himself to scum so they reward him with a “buss”. But if they realize he’s fool, then BD will also be tipped off by the sudden unison of sus people and non-sus people pushing for his execution.

Yes

The best player I know is XPL, and his general strategy is to execute them anyway unless he has very strong reasons to think they’re a Fool (such as a confirmed Trollbox accusing them)*

*this is asterisked because XPL also prefers to deal with confirmed evils through night killpower, particularly in the early game, so as to avoid opening a conversion slot

I very much like how this thread is proceeding so far and definitely do not want to change any rules because I DEFINITELY do not want a repeat of any past fool debates.

I think this is the most important case to bring up because it shows that while fool may require skill, it definitely does not go both ways in how some of the best players handle it.

debating from a linguistic disadvantage is so much fun

if you have to do that to make a debate “fair”

the side that is disadvantaged is probably right

Even then, if the most times where fool gets hung results from discrepancies in logs as brought up on trial (not something particularly difficult to do), then the challenge in fool comes from staying mostly out of view until being vfr’d.

I think there can ever be value in saying things like ‘for the purpose of this debate we’re declaring [x word] off limits to stop people from just shouting it at each other and acting like it makes them right’ but yeah, I do tend to think that ‘don’t use the words that exist for these concepts’ is generally a counterproductive restriction

and not talking much does not seem particularly skillful

last time I tried to deal with a confirmed Fool by jailexeing them it turned out that the person who claimed Hunter with Knight logs and had someone TB’d to accuse them was BD

outplayed

Honestly
This would flow so much worse if the point hadn’t already been hammered home dozens of times over beforehand.

fuck I’m imagining an edit of the joker movie that’s the fool instead
‘we are all fools’ is said as literally every scum wears fool masks
