Bastard per Aretes definition is everything which is unusual for FM
Of course ToL is bastard. ToL is unusual.
Mastermind is bastard because conversion is bastard
Conversion is only meant as bastard when its not known to the players that conversion exist.
Known conversion is not bastard.
i personally define bastard as
something that the host does that is secret that the players could not reasonably guess as a possible mechanic at gamestart
An open setup where the host can lie.
I’m not saying Aretes definition is wrong, and mine is right. I’m saying, there are (at least) two different definitions of bastard. And when we want to talk about “is fool bastard”, we need to be clear first what kind of bastard we mean.
fool by some’s definitions is bastard as it punishes the town for making a technically correct lynch
fool by other’s definitions is not bastard since it punishes every faction for making a wrong decision (aka pushing exe on this player)
I think both of these views are correct in some ways. And definitely both are legit.
it doesn’t matter anyways. The label used to describe a fool isn’t what makes the fool good or bad as a class. Just it’s impact on the game.
It encourages intentionally scummy play.
I was confirmed Fool as Prince
Encourages, not requires.
