Get rid of guaranteed guards on the prince.

Towards the end of the day, the medieval reenactment group began to gather in the field outside the castle. The group began to discuss the twin conspiracies against the court in a lively manner. Yet as King Alan observed the proceedings, he began to grow nervous. Though the rest of the group was actively discussing what was going on, Mary Savill was standing off to the side and largely observing the proceedings. Not only that, but when he thought back to discussions he’d had with her in the past, she’d often talked about the importance of ensuring that her costume was historically accurate, even going so far as to weave and dye her own cloth.

“What do we think of Mary?” he asked.

But in the chaos of the crowd, no one listened to his words. At last, he could see no other option. He dragged a crate over to the center of the crowd.

“I’m invoking section 24A of our bylaws!” said King Alan. “By my decree, we shall cease all discussion of other topics save the exile of Mary!”

“Can he do that?” asked one member of the court, an older man with a prop bow slung over his back. He glanced at the person he was standing next to, a younger person, barely twenty-two, who had hastily retrieved a paper copy of the bylaws.

They flipped through the papers. “Unfortunately, yes,” they said. “Well, there’s nothing for it. Should we exile Mary?”

Mary stepped forward into the center of the circle, squaring her shoulders. She looked King Alan in the eye.

“How dare you,” she said. “How dare you have the audacity to level such an accusation against me – and how dare you take away the freedom of the remaining members of the court to seek the truth? Maybe you’re working with the conspirators!”

The rest of the court gasped, but one member strode to stand beside Mary. “I think Mary’s right!” she said. “You say that Mary is working with the conspirators, but at last summer’s gathering, I heard you yell at a sixteen-year-old just because she had messed up a detail of her heraldry!”

“It wasn’t just a detail!” said King Alan. “She had put a metal on a metal–”

“That’s not the point!” broke in another member of the court. “I think we shouldn’t banish anyone from this gathering without proof – and whatever you’ve given us against Mary, you certainly haven’t given us proof.”

The rest of the court began to nod along. As the sun began to fall, they agreed to retire to their rooms and reconvene in the morning, when they had more substantial evidence. Still, none of them were completely at peace with this decision; the memory of Lucy and Susan’s body was still burned into their minds.

Yet as they began, one-by-one, to depart from the gathering, no one noticed a small group breaking off from the rest of them together, rather than returning to their rooms alone.

That oversight would prove to be deadly.

Day 2 has ended with no execution! Night 2 begins and will end in 24 hours, at 2020-09-21T16:30:00Z. The deadline for action submission is one hour before the end of the night.

The reenactors gathered again the next morning, meeting in the castle’s throne room. Yet as they waited for their King to arrive and start the meeting, they noticed that he had not come to join them. In fact, as they looked around the gathering, they realized that three of them were missing.

Swallowing their fears, they began to search the castle for their missing friends.

They found the first corpse in Nicolas’s bedroom. He was lying in bed, his face contorted. There was a leather band pulled tightly around his neck; apparently someone had suffocated him with it.

The reenactor leading the search clenched their fists. They had to keep going.

Next, they came to the bedchambers of their King. Finding that the door had been barred, they took to forcing it. At last, one of them raised his hand.

“I can scale the walls of the castle,” he said. “If I can get in through the King’s window, I can open the door from the inside.”

“That’s so brave!” said the other members of the reenactment group.

He glanced sideways. It wasn’t courage, exactly, not this, but rather fear at what had happened to the last missing member of the reenactment group…

Still, he was able to unbar the door from the inside, revealing the King’s body. When not fulfilling his duties as the King of their group, Alan liked to engage in blacksmithing. Now, his head had been bashed in with an anvil.

The group continued to search the body for the last remaining victim. At last, having almost given up, they returned to the main courtroom.

There, they found Helen Harte, lying in a pool of blood. Once again, they found themselves drawing their breath in in shock. But one member of the court charged ahead.

“There’s a note!” he said.

He pulled the note off of Helen’s body.

You continue to defame this castle with the trappings of modernity and inaccuracy.

Now you will pay.

- Helen.
