SFoL Concept: Adapt and Evolve

Im planning to host a SFoL in the future named Adapt and Evolve. The SFoL is pretty far down the list so it won’t be happening any time soon (SFoL 33), however I wanted some feedback and/or suggestions about it.
The reason why I’m looking for feedback this early is because the game will have a big number of classes so I want to post some of the class cards from time to time so you can help me with stuff like balance.

The game is similar to classic FoL, with an added “evolution” mechanic. Basically, all classes are divided into 3 tiers. All players begin in tier 1 and must perform certain actions to “evolve”, which will change their class to one of the tier 2 classes, depending on which “quest” they completed.
Evolving from tier 1 to tier 2 is really easy and is more like a choice than a quest. Evolving from tier 2 to tier 3 however is harder.
As an example of this, here is the King’s evolution tree (Spoiler, there are 7 different “King” roles):

The Leader's Evolution tree

The Leader

  • Kill a killer role: “Collect” now bypasses healing and death immunity.
  • Kill an investigative role: Analyze now only gives the real result, and will also tell you the target’s faction.
  • Kill a social role: Gain 1 extra use of “Exploit Weakness”. When you use “Exploit weakness” you can guess two classes instead of one. If the target player is any of those classes they will die.
  • Kill a special role: When you first get this evolution, choose a class. You will appear as that class to investigators. Also hides your visits.
  • Complete all other quests: “Collect” can now target two players.

Finally, here is an evolution chart for easy access:

The Hermit evolves into The Cleric or The Diseased
The Jester evolves into The Fool or The Scorned

Other stuff you need to know about the game:

  • Every class type has a tree, and with some exceptions every tree has 7 classes (1 tier 1, 2 tier 2, and 4 tier 3).
  • Not all tier 3 classes are unique. For example, both “The Butler” and “The Observer” can evolve into “The Executioner”.
  • Some classes will change class types when evolving. These evolutions are extremely situational and hard to achieve. For example, to evolve the Butler into “the Executioner” you must kill an Evil or Neutral King with your “Nightshade Wine”.
  • You will be told when you fulfill the requirements to evolve. You can evolve at any time after that by telling the host. Evolving doesn’t count as an action and you can do it at any time. Once you evolve, you cannot go back to a previous tier, however.
  • There will be some of my class suggestions in the game, many of the classes of the “Golden Dragon” will appear as tier 3 evolutions.
  • The scum faction will be a modified version of my faction suggestion “The Reptilians”.
  • The reptilians have a different evolution tree than the BD, with more tier 1 classes and fewer tier 3 classes.
  • There will be a special NK for this game, called “The Collector”, which will be a combination between a Neutral Killer and an investigative role.

I don’t know what SFoL 20 was, but if it was any similar to this maybe I should ask the host to give me some advice

Ah!
Basically…

Yours seem more advanced, as you let classes evolve and stuff like that.

The SFoL 20 was SFoL RPG, where classes had a tree of abilities, where /noaction allows you to progress to the next level.

Actually read this for more info.

This explains it so much moreee

Ah, I remember that game. Where I did not screw us over. That was fuuunnnn.
But yeah, I might prefer this over RPG since you can basically choose your classes AND technically you’re abilities as well.

Hey CheesyKnives here also host to SFOL 20.

This idea looks great but requires alot of effort.

How do you plan on making sure to level up the right people? Theres quite alot of different objectives,

Sometimes level ups give info that you wouldnt know otherwise. If the Queen uses guards , then evolves into the Monarch, she’ll now know that at least 2 people visited her last night. Do ya want this to happen or nada?

Anyway, cant wait to see where this goes.

I’m aware about some level ups giving info you are not supposed to know, but I think its fine as long as its not too gamebreaking. Also, I might have worded it wrong but to evolve into the Monarch you don’t have to prevent 2 visits on a single night, just 2 visits total.

Also I added the Waiter’s evolution tree. (BD offensive)

lit :ok_hand:

what if the butler fufills the criteria to become the executioner and the inkeeper?

They get to choose. At first I was thinking on making evolutions instant but I think it would be better to tell people when they can evolve and they can choose when to evolve, in case they want to wait for a different evolution or delay it for some reason.

For example, after occupying 3 people as a butler I would tell them “You can evolve into the Innkeeper!”. But instead of evolving immediately they won’t evolve until they tell the host. People can evolve at any time an it doesn’t count as an action.

I also need some help balancing the neutral killer. It doesn’t have linear evolutions like the other classes and instead gets more powerful every time he kills a class of a different type.

Eeww

I hear a Juggernaut >:(

I added The Investigator’s Evolution Tree and an Evolution Chart at the bottom with all the planned classes and their evolutions (it only has the names of the classes).
