[SFoL] SFoL 53: Looming Threat - Completed

I think I know what you’re talking about, but would you be able to give me a specific example? I want to make sure we are on the same page here.

Oh dear

Also yes Maxwell listed some lessons that I have to take note of. Also…

My first reads are always the most accurate. Always go back and ask myself what changed it, and why. Then, compare to see if the reason is reasonable from an outsider’s pov.

Stuff like this from your deathtunnel on arete and me

Arete:

Arete came into the thread with several easy reads. Hja town because she follows her town meta, Priestess gutread town, Maxwell ‘slight scumlean for defensiveness but kind of weird response.’ There are a few notable things here. Gutreading Priestess town feels like an attempt at pocketing, the Hja townread is the easiest and safest possible read to make, and the Maxwell read is just… complete and utter hedging. Arete also avoids Marshal and Geyde. This makes me believe Arete is hedging on Maxwell because they are not sure what to write about Maxwell. Arete is not certain what is going to look good and give them the expected result - which is why they are hedging. It was their opening post and they have not established a strategy just yet. Later on, they kept on posting - however, while they did bring up a high amount of points, followup on many of them was lacking.

Arete keeps engaging with the thread, posting their thoughts and trying to appear like they are solving the game. Key word: appear. If you look closely, Arete has actually not been going anywhere and most of their efforts were intended to make them appear towny - while clearing a few scumbud in the process. Being very vocal is a good strategy to control the thread, which is what Arete has been trying to accomplish. However, their tone feels strongly artificial and their thought processes are unnatural. I can’t explain this very well, but I am simply unable to envision a townie playing like this. Arete is not trying to solve the game. They are trying to stall and keep the lynch away from them - and their buddies.

That is NOT an ISO. You gave no quotes so it’s impossible to know which parts of your commentary apply to what.
You’re really just talking to yourself; convincing yourself more and more that arete and I are scum without interacting with anyone else.
Talking to yourself just to solidify your pre-existing reads in your own mind is pretty bad.

Oh, that’s what you meant. I’m glad you brought this up.

I really should have provided actual evidence there. I’m sorry.

Lesson #4 for me:
For the love of god, be more aggressive in telling people not to claim.
I sat idly by and let half or more of the game hardclaim or soft after we learned there was an anti-claim mechanic in play. That was terrible.

IIRC scum had 6 people Mark of Truthed by EoD1, in a game starting with 19 town.

Lesson #5 for me:
DO NOT let my experience with a player in a past game impact my outlook on them in another. Self metas morph continuously and relying on them almost always fails.
I should never let town and myself fall under the idea that Kyo’s AtE had to have been false because they were so convincing with one as NK in SFoL 00.

Looking back on it now, Kyo’s AtE was remarkably more heartfelt here than it was there. Falling into past game slippery slopes loses games.

To go along with that:
Don’t let the name of a scum mechanic affect the outcome of a lynch. The idea we came to that a real priest probably didn’t exist because an ability called “Dies Irae” existed was laughable, and mostly my fault since I looked into defining that term for the court.

I didn’t even AtE in SFoL: 00, or did I

that is literally the reason you died

I got lynched because those fools thought they’d be better off being converted.

My Neutral Killer claim was perfectly executed. Clearly.

i thought i would have a lot to say post-game but now that the game has actually ended i’m truly speechless

i did not expect to lose today but bd just started dying en masse to scum mechanics

here

I practically hardclaimed NK throught that game.
I literally said I thought if Merc died it’d remove a vote needed to kill me right after I shot him.

and here

how did I not see this fearmongering from Marshal

wait i think I did see it but i still townread him
