I apologize if it came across the wrong wayā¦ however I intended it as a suggestion towards all the spectators who might possibly be spectating and interested in backing up in order to ensure that we donāt run into a lot of game problems.
We understand your reasons for spectating (and Areteās) and that youāre busy, but I dont know about every spectator. Iām asking every spectator to consider their own personal reasons for spectating, re-evaluate the reasons why they might want to back up, and ask them to consider again. Whatever decision they come to, we will respect it.
Iām not trying to make a decision for other peopleā¦ Iām asking them to reconsider, given the circumstances.
Why do I want people to reconsider?
This is not just about a game that we want to fill. Iām the only backup and we usually get 2-3 replacements, especially in large setups. Iām concerned for the welfare of the game and trying to encourage people to do so. There have BEEN games where a shortage of backups has put the game in limbo and with a very big setup it can easily get to this.
There is a key difference between inning and backing up. When you in on a game, you have an obligation to play that game. If you back up, itās not a commitment that you will replace in, itās just telling the host that you will likely be available, but that youāve made no commitments.
The general rule of thumb is that back-ups will always be allowed to become spectators if they wish. But spectators usually cannot become back-ups.
There is more flexibility in being a back-up so even if there is a remote chance that one could and wish to play the game, they can. However, once one decide to spectate, there is no going back.

you posting this is at least indirectly pressuring people to backup when they might not want to.
I respectfully disagree with this post citing what iāve outlined. People who spectate do so almost always knowing they do not want to or can not play, and do not want to or can not play down the line.

if people want to back up they will back up. Most of the specs have weighed in on this matter and agree that we really should not be pressuring specs into joining. So please stop.

I know what you are saying but I do not want to join the mormon church and my neighbors who all have signs saying āI am of x religionā probably donāt too.
So you might be doing what you think is right but it comes off as super not great and might make people feel bad about spectating or, even worse, convince them into doing something they donāt want to.
so I am respectfully asking you (and the community as a whole) to not continue to do so

Iāve brought forth my concerns and my reasons why.
I respect the right of everyone to in, backup, and spectate.
Iām just asking anyone who might be interested in playing (and has all the interest, desire, capacity and ability to do so) and spectating to consider backupping.
Anyways this isnāt a debate so Iām ending it there.
