Marshal wall incomming
“Hopes” like this is the reason why I left MC.
I was too toxic there, so I ragequit.
Here my toxicity is at least considered as mild if you ignore the gamethrow on SFoL63.
My general definition of what is too far is ‘Ad hominem insults’ (Insulting a person and not their play), and continuously flaming somebody’s play in a way that uses directly disparaging language (I’d define this as stuff like ‘idiot’, ‘moron’, or worse).
(“This play is dumb” would be fine, “YOU are dumb for making this play” is not, “This play is moronic as fuck” would not be.)
Nobody should be immediately suspended for this, but any posts that fit ‘not fine’ should be warned asap, and repeated instance of use after warning should result in a ban
I’m not the one decider on this but I think boundries in this general way is good even if I don’t have the details fleshed out
anyways I’m done being an attention whore and making this about myself
you people do something productive
everyone is going to be at least a little bit toxic sometimes
I think weve all at some point been at least mildlt toxic and like thats just being a person and having feelings
but their are times where too far is too far, or people who just blatantly dont give a fuck about if their toxic
Ill admit their have been times I got frustrated and said stuff that I didnt mean out of frustration and anger, but I usually try to apologies for that stuff once iv calmed down because I know its not okay
Mods v obvs lurking this thread, we’re not allergic to u guys and u guys have the power so I do sorta wanna know what the mods think abt this (even if I do expect nothing more than ‘We have taken your considerations and will discuss them privately’ because that’s how moderation works)
idk marshal
have you met some of the mods?
I mean im pretty sure one of them is a cat so someone here is bound to be allergic to them
suddenly, I feel very itchy
Hot take:
weh
There are some points we would like to address here, as it seems there are misconceptions, as well as valid concerns, about the moderation system.
Firstly, a reminder that not all punishments are public, and this is not up to us to change. We tend to issue warnings (sometimes multiple, if the offences are not similar and are also minor) before we issue bans or blacklists. There are also silences for times when action needs to be taken quickly. If the rulebreak is severe, harsher punishments are given.
We cannot change the Global rules. We can, however, change the FM rules. In fact, changes are coming soon. I know I’ve said this multiple times but I do promise you they are in the works and are being discussed - we don’t want to rush anything. You can expect to see those within the next few days.
The only discord server we are officially affiliated with is the ToL Discord. Rulebreaks in other servers do not necessary lead to punishments on our site, as we have different guidelines and standards for evidence as well. With that being said, if another user is harassing you in private messages, please feel free to contact us.
And a final note: If you see somebody breaking the rules, please report them. Use the flag button, or DM a moderator. While we certainly try, we don’t necessarily read every post, and we can’t punish a rulebreak if we don’t know it exists. The flag button is your best friend, and will lead to the fastest response times.
Also as players we complain about mods a lot but we really should also work to change as a community and actively discourage toxic behavior as well
Because their are issues that are just issues with the community we’ve built as a whole where we seem to accept some forms of toxicity (I’m not completely innocent here) that we shouldn’t accept
I’m going to miss Eevee. I really liked him.
While reading through this discussion, a half-formed idea popped into my head. Perhaps we need a sort of jury system. On a rotating basis, we could recruit a certain number of regular members to jury duty. They wouldn’t have mod powers, but they would be included in mod discussions of issues that come up and could voice their opinions. This would help is two aspects. First, it could help the mods see what others in the community feel about the issue without making it fully public and growing into a possibly messy discussion. Second, it would allow regular members to actually see what goes on in the background with mod issues so they can better appreciate what does happen.
I think it’s a fun idea but probably isn’t feasible or practical in the long run
Sounds neat but I think some people don’t really want to be juries though
You see they made me a mod
Realistically I don’t think I have much to contribute to this conversation so weh
Haha, true. Jury duty is never fun. I’ve been called for jury duty twice IRL, and once had to go in for the jury selection. Luckily wasn’t actually chosen for the trial.
However, some duties are important for a community. And we wouldn’t need to make it absolutely required. If some people really don’t want to, then they could refuse. I personally would be willing to take part. Maybe we’d only have like 2 jury members at a time just to see if the involvement helps. And it could be rotated monthly or something like that so it wouldn’t be a huge commitment each time.
