SOME sort of anti-harassment feature? Ignore/vote out/mute/anything

So, I’ll start out by saying I realize I’m in the minority for being a female ToL player and/or a female gamer in general. ToL was, when I started a great player base / community. Lately the toxicity has been ramping up so extremely that it’s literally a negative experience 50% of the time I play. There are racial slurs, disability slurs, slurs against women, profane names… There is a level of offensiveness that is to be expected in any multiplayer gaming arena; its par for the damn course. But as our game-gods, it is your responsibility to give us players a way to protect ourselves from other malicious players in your game - because you can’t always mediate every single issue realtime for all of us.

I beseech you devs, PLEASE give us an ignore feature, a vote out of game, anything that we can do to protect ourselves against verbal assault / harassment / toxicity.

I know the trolls will leap on this statement, but idgaf because it’s true - as of rn, I legitimately have no way to protect myself on your game if someone decides to harass me, or to stop someone from pushing me to a point of poor conduct because I can’t escape their slurs and offenses. I would 1000% rather mute a toxic player than uninstall ToL or accept a ban just to feel basic emotional safety.

Please implement an ignore feature. I am only ONE minority gamer speaking. There are many on your game.

A mute feature sounds ok. Also helps against spammers. But personally i never felt the need to mute anybody and ive played A LOT of games.

I agree fully, more than half the games i’ve played in the last week has had at least 1 person that made me think “Man it’s be nice for a mute button.” Anything at all would help, as long as I don’t have to listen to someone use slurs or spam chat.

Please implement something.

If you would mute someone HALF of the games i think you might be a bit too sensible. I have really not experienced this ammount of toxicity.

You are fortunate, sir  May you continue having such excellent luck with your games.
Surely you can believe though that not all of us have been so lucky :frowning:
Implementation of any degree of personal chat control would really just be a safeguarding tool. I sincerely hope I am wrong when I state that it’s just a matter of time before any/all of us run into someone online who makes us feel unpleasant things.
Almost every other multiplayer game I can think of has some degree of personal safety tool in place for restricting unwanted chat messages. I realize that’s tricky on a game like ToL where it’s based on shared information… but surely, there must be a solution to keep players safe while still preserving the integrity of the mechanics. I won’t* believe it’s either/or

I agree. There needs to at least be a feature to blocklist someone and never see them in your matchmaking again.

Guys need to be reporting this stuff to the devs/mods , they do take action if you report , they do look through chat history etc and they are pretty sensible lot

I have been in many games with players named richard spencer, players spouting racism, etc. but I never found the need to mute someone.

The reason being because they are also playing the game normally usually, and If I mute them I won’t get to hear their important information potentially.

As for the voting out of a game, it would be abused too much to kick the bad guys out just before they win.

I find it interesting that people are dismissing this request with “that hasn’t been my experience.”
That’s totally fine if you feel that way, guys, but uh… obviously other people can have different experiences :frowning:
[edited cuz I think I misread tone - feel free to correct me lol]
If you’re thinking that “the inclusion of such a safety feature would detriment my game experience…” Well, damn… that would be pretty inhumane. :frowning: Obviously, people have different experiences with online games. That’s why the dang EULA of every MMO reads “Online Experiences May Vary With Play.”

That being said, honestly devs, I’m just the current squeaky wheel :frowning: I feel like releasing a multiplayer game with 0 options for chat control features is a safety oversight. I feel like I don’t need to mention the liability issues that could be involved with even just one person actually getting some traction on their toxicity. Like… thank goodness the priest referenced in that year ban appeal wasn’t in the middle of a depressive crash or intensely stressful life event. Right? But what if he had been? shiver let’s not even humor the thought.

If I need to drive this nail into the ground any further to make my point, I’d refer again to the currently visible post re: an appeal for 1 year ban. The devs are doing a wonderful job of tracking the offenses and defending the injured parties (post-issue). But – my point is, those people still had to hear that toxicity. That priest still had to log off and go man… some asshole online told me to kill myself tonight. That feels really fkn shitty.

Tl;dr: Let us pick up some of the responsibility for our own safety - please - it is appropriate.
As it stands, I cannot truthfully say that your game provides a safe environment at present - not without some way to escape harassment without punishment.

So, dear devs: I sincerely hope you consider my plea. Thank you.

there is punishment . report the player . having the ability to unsee a comment requesting that someone kill themselves is probably beyond the ability of the development team.

Sorry, for clarification: punishment for the offended party; IE, if I want to leave a game I have to accept a day ban

im not sure on this . I think that if you are being harassed and leave because of it I suspect that you would not be punished . someone who is in charge would likely know more on this than me

I agree, but even if a mute function only lasted for 30 seconds before expiring, it would still be enough to mitigate some toxicity

maybe you can see a stock “x sent a chat message but he is muted to you” whenever they send a message so you know when they’re talking. this wouldn’t take affect when the muted person (x) is a prince that jailed you, or a psychic that’s talking to you (maybe those could be muted separately), because they are anonymous technically

I have been told to kill myself several times elsewhere and really it isn’t that bad.

Anyone who tells someone else to kill themselves is either an edgy 12-14 year old or someone who is considering the prospect themselves.

Rope, don’t bring up Suicide, and calling people who tell people to kys consider suicide as well is insulting to me personally.

I didn’t

I didn’t say they should consider suicide, I said they probably are doing so. I don’t want anyone to commit suicide

I apologize sincerely if that was a triggering comment.

This was not intended to be a post about whether or not something was considered toxic - it’s a post about what we can do as players to protect ourselves if we feel something crosses a line. No one’s lines/boundaries/morals are identical - what offends me probably doesn’t offend you and maybe even visa versa; that’s okay.

The question is, if/when someone DOES say something that crosses a line, what IMMEDIATE measure can we take to cease/desist the altercation before it escalates into a problem?
Yes, I know we can report, and I use that option sparingly because I realize the devs’ time is precious; it is an excellent feature and I am grateful for it! However, it also requires waiting, and doesn’t affect your exposure to the reported person’s chat – is that accurate?

I wasn’t triggered, just pissed off. I accept your apology.
