The King's Allies - They Gotta Go

Making whispers to king invisible would make noble’s maid spy useless since most whispers are directed towards the king. Unless they change noble’s maid spy so it can see hidden whispers as well or something like that.

I think it already works like that. You can test it with a Psychic if you want.

I had no idea about that. If that is how it currently works, then Im fine with the hidden whispers as long as it is a limited ability and not a permanent passive or something.

What about an unlimited use night ability?

That would mean you can’t use guards at the same time

Also I would support making guards a visit prevention for starting king

Pretty sure it does, I was listening in on a Psychic talking to a King and no one noticed it the whole game, whereas whisperers tend to get shanked in the night.

Okay so, Private Matter on original King would be pretty nice because his faction is fairly unknown to everybody

Is that what I’m getting?

I think starting king should be able to check players. Without checks there’s not much for a starting evil king to do. However the check itself does need something to change. Right now it’s just pure luck if the king checks you the first few nights.

Uh, the whole point of this was to turn away the King’s role as chief investigator at anything in the game so that people don’t look to him every single early game for info.

The king really isn’t chief investigator. Checking someone isn’t guaranteed to be correct and king is easiest to mess with. Illusionist, fool, and scorned can all mess with checks and most of the time they aren’t screwing an observer or princess it’s the king. The king’s checks aren’t some guaranteed way to find the unseen or cult they can get messed up. The only reason the king is viewed as chief investigator is because everyone knows who they are, and how often is it the king’s check that finds information or another class just telling the king? Whether or not the King can check it will be the same, people will follow the king’s claims because investigators aren’t going to out themselves, they’ll tell the king.

Someone giving information to the king leaves more room for a lie, though, since it could be a Scorned or Fool feeding the king bad information. When the king investigates themselves, the only thing you have to worry about is if they’re evil.

And evil kings almost never lie about their allies results (although, come to think of it, I don’t know why they don’t - you can pretty easily conclude that you were fooled by a Scorned’s frame-up, especially if you investigated and accused someone obvious who turned out to be BD. Even if you do get caught, the mislynch is often worth it.)

You do realize that the Illusionist can’t target the king right. And the fact that his check also finds Neutrals. And the fact that that he is uncounterclaimable.

didn’t know that. King is the only guaranteed investigative class right now though as well I’ve had multiple games with no sheriffs/paladins/observers and at that point king’s checks are all you really have to go on. If they add some investigative roll that’s guaranteed to be in every game I would probably support it more. can you counterclaim anything a king says? check or not if king says it it goes though the majority of the time.

I would make 1 guarenteed Sheriff/Pally again. It used to be the case so it wouldn’t be unreasonable.

Come to think of it, if Allies doesn’t get removed, at the very least “allow Illusionists to target the king” seems like a very common-sense suggestion.

I mean I’m all for Allies getting replaced, but if they want to go with a more cautious change first… is there a reason Illusionists can’t target the king?

It was just for balance and stuff I think, but now there’s no point for an Illusionist to target the King, well unless theu’re going to mess with Guards

I don’t think they can mess with guards. That Ability doesn’t give feedback.

Or maybe that’s your point.

And combining everyone’s ideas and mine I think I made a possible King rework, but what do you think about it?

Could be too powerful. But then again it needs to be. It’s definitely much better than the king we have now.

It would also either make the Invoker much better or much worse with the passive in play.

It’s a solid fake claim too, so you wouldn’t even need to revert
