The Mastermind Fake-Claim Problem

  • Knight

If you don’t get flirted or coldsteeled by the real Knight, this is a good fake claim.

  • Obs
  • Princess
  • Sheriff

You’d think these classes would be decent fake-claims because like MM, they are Special/Investigative and not occupy immune, but Obs is impossible to fake. Princess gets outed as soon as King dies, and Sheriff gets outed because there’s usually two real Sheriffs.

  • Phys

Very easy to write fake logs for, but almost every game has two real Phys.

  • CW

As impossible to fake as Obs, since you can’t fake the N1 swap that every good CW performs.

  • Butler
  • Drunk

Impossible to fake and you have nothing in common with these classes.

  • Hunter

Unique, you can’t fake claim it when there’s a real Hunter and you have no way of knowing if there is before it’s too late.

  • Mystic
  • Noble

Impossible to fake.

Conclusion:

Knight is the only well-rounded BD fakeclaim for Mastermind. All the others require more luck than social manipulation to maintain your cover, like there not being 2 real Sheriffs or you randomly converted one N1 and he changed his claim upon becoming Assassin.

I believe this is another illustration of why we need new BD classes in the game.

I disagree with that. Knight is too much of an overused claim.
Observer is a good mid/late-game claim because you can just base yourself into logs of dead people/revelated logs with alive people in them. Sheriff does quite suspiciosly but nicer than Knight most of the times.
Games does not usually have two real Physicians, so they’re safe as well.
Not every CW swaps N1. Or you claim to make swaps that no one would notice (like a N2 swap between two people no one visited).
Butler is possible to fake if you go for people who claimed to be occupied or dead people.
Hunter is nice if there’s not another hunter. If anything falls out, at least you can take the real hunter out.
Noble is possible to fake if you never had used Maid Spy (or got info from dead/dead nobles), otherwise is the same as an obs claim with the generic RB disavantage above.
Drunk and Princess indeed are worn out when king dies tho.

Even then, when you’re asked to wolf someone you’re pretty much dead. Plus, you’ll have to wait until you know that there are no other Hunters to fakeclaim it other they’ll CC you and you’re dead.

Yes, claim a class that has automatic day-time confirmation. What could possible go wrong?

It happens as the frequency of any other class with the exception of sheriff.

Even then, when you’re asked to wolf someone you’re pretty much dead. Plus, you’ll have to wait until you know that there are no other Hunters to fakeclaim it other they’ll CC you and you’re dead.

If you can’t afford waiting, then don’t claim Hunter. You’re not usually requested to wolf early game if not playing by a very aggro king meta (which tends to happen really early) anyway. If you need to wolf mid/late-game, you can accuse the “Physician” of lying. It’ll gain time for your comrades.

Maid Spy is not a passive. If late-game claiming, go for days that only had whispers with dead people or no whispers at all. No one will check the D2 chat logs anyway so you should be safe about that. If D2 claiming, kings are usually so busy getting all claims they won’t bother to give you a “hey noble TELL ME EVERYTHING” since it’s rare for people to fakeclaim Noble since it’s confirmedness anyway.

The most funny part about this claim is the fact sometimes BD would decide hang you anyway despite if were cc’ed or not. First thought that comes to average BD player: “Kill him, it’s obviously NK!”.

I meant his day abilities. When people notice that you can’t double-vote or force others then you’ll be quickly executed.

Claim that you don’t want to waste them, say you already used them when other Noble used the ability or have your assassin save your skin on “forced to vote”, though this is risky

Actually, they’ve lowered the spawn rate of sheriffs so there are less games w/ 2 sheriffs now

There’s still 1 confirmed sheriff tho. I don’t know the spawning odds so I can’t calculate [anyBDclass]*[anyBDclass] vs sheriff

Not if you claim that king is evil KEKEKE. Noble is an unusual claim for this exact motive anyway.

forgot to add “a dead noble” in the post. Most of the time they won’t bother to recheck tho, you’ll only be screwed if they have a good memory or they actually do check.

And if he screws up, both of you are dead.

That’s why it’s risky.

And that’s why Noble is an unusual claim. But not COMPLETELY UNVIABLE like you’re trying to make it look like

I’ve tried several times claiming Noble as Mastermind and asking my Assassin to fake force-vote for me. But my teammates NEVER cooperate and they never give any explanation either, they just ignore my request and I get caught for being fake Noble or have to change my claim.
