Just because you don’t like a certain playstyle, doesn’t mean that somebody else won’t. Neutral king was one of its kind and I didn’t think it had to be removed.
No, Pretender actually doesn’t start as King so can become King when BD can’t afford to kill them.
Give neutral king a hide and a 1-shot self-heal ability then. That solves reap and butler poison.
That was before the Whisper King meta, when the King became a valuable target for the NK to kill, and possibly unseen/cult. Also before Pretender was a thing too.
There is no reason the meta wouldn’t shift again as well if king chances were adjusted to include neutral.
Also there has totally been a whisper king meta back when neutral starting king was a thing.
but they aren’t… any other kind of king has the potential to die, but make huge strides to their win condition before going down and hope the survivors can carry the ball.

Have you really been effective if you get n2 reaped? Poisoned and being executed for being evil you should have under control by looking BD enough.
Wow, seems neutral king is more controversial than I thought. Maybe I add more options to side with NK? This being: (Warning: loose suggestions)
Passive (Royal Bond) - The neutral killer will know you are a neutral king as soon as the game begins.
Win Condition: Survive OR have the neutral killer win
So this way it plays alot different than gk and ek, because it has options

Neutral Kings are iffy because Kingmakers like Alch are already an iffy concept and having them be impossible to mechanically find just makes them unfair to everyone involved. And making neutral King confirmable goes against the point of King

Also, there’s the thing that even if the NK knows the king is neutral, it still can’t rely on them helping them anyway.

Alch is more fun then neutral king.
He isn’t targeted by reapers (sometimes) or butlers or randomly executed on D2 when people think you are EK

The real problem with this suggestion that seems to have been strangely unnoticed (or maybe I’m blind and someone posted about it already lol) is that is has allies. I don’t want to go back to the dark place of allies meta :^)
