Thoughts on "Whisper me roles" King Meta

This is a side-effect of making the king more likely to be good, which I specifically warned people about at the time. I would suggest just reverting that change and going back to 1/3 good, 1/3 evil, 1/3 neutral.

This doesn’t solve everything (as others have said, the evil king usually plays the long con - which means they have to report leads to avoid getting called out by whoever gave it to them, allowing Sheriffs and the like to accuse anonymously.)

But, psychologically, it makes people more reluctant to give their role to the king, and it especially makes the Prince and other vital BD roles less likely to claim to the king, since throwing away their life to get the Prince is a valid and common Evil King play. Making it so that person who didn’t claim could be evil but could also be the prince somewhat decreases the value of making everyone claim.

That’s a terrible idea.

No one will trust the King if he as 2/3 chance of being not BD.

He’ll be hanged d2 every game.

You don’t need to talk in hypotheticals. This already happened and it was always a big problem. It was the whole reason why we gave King loyalty and Allies.

Going from a 33% chance to a 90% chance of BD King? Yeah I’ll take that trade any day. Plus then order exe can’t be used on BD (which is likely given those distributions).

What if we increased the chances of Evil/Neut King, but removed the Butler? It’s a troubled class anyway, in need of a rework.

  • Increase chances of Evil/Neut King
  • Keep and/or increase penalty for executing Good King
  • Remove Butler -> Removes quick, consequence-free kill of King
  • Removing Butler may also increase claim space for non-BD, since there would be more multiples.

In the meantime:

  • Rework Butler
  • Possibly add ability for Noble/Aristocrat/Apostle to snoop/spy on King’s whispers

I wasn’t talking about Nightshade - you vote up King D2 if he’s got a 66% chance of not being good because there’s a 90% chance that whoever you put up on D3 is good.

NS isn’t consequence free either - Butler commits suicide if the king is good (so you lose a good king + an occupier)

This is true, which is why I think the one-day “vote freeze” consequence is a good thing and would alleviate this issue somewhat. 33% Good King might still be too low though.

What if being poisoned or bled makes you “delirious,” so you can’t tell who is whispering to who, or who the sender of any whispers to you are?
