Town of Salem has ISO Now

I give that as the example, because it’s a way to increase swing without meaningfully increasing the amount of variety. Thus isolating whatever benefits swing could possibly have.

Since in principle it is possible to have variety without swing (albeit extremely difficult) if the swing by itself isn’t an improvement then swing is not good. And if the swing by itself harms the game then it should be actively removed.

It is bad because it is unfair.
But swing isn’t unfair.

As long as you have a decent winchance as any class, the game isn’t unfair.
But what you suggest has no reasonability.

Every game you lose because of swing is a game you lost because of RNG. The only difference between losing to swing in my proposal and losing to swing in the actual game is when it is determined that RNG has screwed you over.

Basically, Swing is unfair almost by definition.

Random =/= bad. Random =/= unfair.

The difference is that things can be unfair without being swing. But all swing, regardless of magnitude, is unfair.

if a result is out of your hands and is skewed one way or another
would it be fair?

If your skill matters only in 10% of all games (since you have seen, that’s the difference between the best player and the average player), all other 90% games are random. And that’s cool. Noone is angry about that.

The game is not possible without swing. And the game is not unfair. Therefore not every swing is unfair.

False. Completely false. When people feel like their skill doesn’t matter there is an outrage. It’s why people didn’t like WKM, it’s why NK kept needing to be buffed to be viable, it’s why the game has a lot of very specific spawning rules ect ect ect.

False again. This game is somewhat unfair. And in principle swing could be removed, although we haven’t quite worked out how.

Exactly. Feelings have nothing to do with reality. Your feeling is that tol isn’t random, but in fact it is pretty random. You can know that when you look at the winrates.

Just because feelings aren’t the same thing as reality doesn’t mean they aren’t connected. A game with no swing won’t feel as swingy as a game with a shit ton of swing.

‘There is a relatively small difference between the skill of the most skilled player and the skill of the least skilled player’ doesn’t mean ‘skill doesn’t/shouldn’t affect the outcome of the game’ it means ‘the game has multiple players’

ToL’s randing system at some level isn’t entirely random (see the contract merc affecting gk/ek a lot back in the day)
People’s actions aren’t entirely random
etc

Wut? The skill of the players is really different. But the outcome is not. It’s just 10% between the best and the average.
