Voting for classes (VFC/VFR)

hey ;(

So basicallyā€¦ you want a mass claim on Day 2 to get everyoneā€™s classes? Were you not saying you wanted to have fun playing a game?

I swear, youā€™re literally contradicting yourself at every twist and turn.

Voting for Class is not fun at all.

Itā€™s not only harmful for BD, itā€™s a very lazy way of playing the game.

Yeah, that post took like 50 minutes to type/copy+paste/remove Town of Salem terminology =P. I really should take a nap or something, my brain hurts XD!

Still, very good job tips hat to you

I havenā€™t read it in entirety, but my idea of VFC/VFR:

Get random players on trial, and if they have information, follow the leads for the next player to be on trial.

been there lol

ā€œIā€™m Norm, I want to have fun playing Throne of Lies but I also want to tryhard my tits off.ā€

Literally you in a nutshellā€¦

VFC. Voting for Class. Your point has nothing to do with it.

If you reread your post, you will see that I changed my mind on the whole posting journals thing.

I already said that I find it fun.
Not fun as scum though, because it is so darned effective!

The same people who say ā€œsilent court is dead courtā€ say ā€œgiving info to scum is bad!ā€ contradicting themselves.

VFC is good after paladin/sheriff dead especially, because you lost your main info streamer.

I agree because what are ya going to do? Oh I know. Make fucking scumreads. Also Princess is WAYY better now. Princess went from OP to UP to Just right. Also props to whoever came up with the princess results ability.

No. It is not.

Dude. I mean I took your point away from you Plex XD. Donā€™t be completely c**nty sayin ā€œNo, itā€™s notā€ It is, but prove your point god damn it

great way to contribute to the thread, plex.

VFC forces scum to act on the moment, increases their chance of making a mistake.

(note: first sentence was him quoting me)

I posted my point twice, @Sketchā€™s thread said everything I would say. Hereā€™s your contribution. For the third time.

https://forum.imperium42.com/t/vfr-is-poor-in-tol-but-thats-a-good-thing/1785?u=theplex

Saying that I havenā€™t contributed to the thread, you can kindly go back and read every other post Iā€™ve made.

@Sketch said it best and I remain on that point.

But my main problem right now with Norm is the fact that you change your opinions like women change their shoes.

One minute: I wanna have fun playing throne of lies by roleplaying as princess
The next minute: I wanna try hard my tits off by voting for classes

So how about you actually make your damn mind up, Norm

It doesnā€™t due to the scum could have EVERYTHING ready like in ToS, because VFC there is very common.

you sexist pig t r i g g e r e d

Fuckit, Iā€™m just gonna post @Sketchā€™s entire post in this thread. All credit goes to him.

Short Answer: Decide Fate, Dangerous Day Abilities and The Fool

Long Answer:

I am really loving the King mechanic in this game. The King is a character who looms over the entire game, shrouded in mystery for the most part as investigative classes cannot determine his alignment. He is a monument to scumreading - a character you must judge based SOLELY on his actions and speech. Most games he is untouched until the very end of the game as nobody is quite sure if he is on their side or not.

He also wields a ridiculous amount of power. Decide Fate is the main reason you might not want an important claim on trial, such as the Prince or Paladin. An Evil King would (and really should) immediately execute any Prince claim even if it means his death the following day. Sacrificing yourself to eliminate such a pivotal character in the game is surely worth it. Iā€™d argue the only two roles you 100% Decide Fate execute on as an Evil King would be Prince or Paladin and maybe Sheriff if you donā€™t think they have knighted anybody yet.

Neutral Kings who have more faith in the evil roles might even consider executing powerful town roles if it is near the end of the game and they still have guards left.

There are 3 alignments for King, 1 of which will no doubt execute a Prince on sight and another that might consider it later. Consider it a 40% of your Prince/Paladin/maybe Sheriff getting executed when getting randomly voted to the stand.

Another threat to VFR are the multiple and dangerous day abilities that exist to inhibit speech or confuse players, like Chilling Touch or Distract. Even an assassinā€™s 10 second distract ability can create doubt in the minds of the town. Did that person just quickly type up a will, or were they truly distracted like they claim?

If a Reaper sees that somebody is being voted up for a role, they WILL cast Chilling Touch on them, causing them to be unable to claim and say anything at all. This person will likely get lynched or executed.

You could simply have your Prince execute them if you fear a Fool, but losing executes can be just as bad as not being able to vote for 2 days. Remember, Chilling Touch has TWO uses! Reaper can potentially get town to kill off 2 of their own just with their day ability. The counterplay to this is to allow the silent person off the stand and continue on with VFR on a second person as the Reaper cannot cast a day ability twice in a row.

The problem here is this - if this meta develops this way, evils can simply stay silent and feign a Chilling Touch and prevent town from getting their role that day. Entertain the thought and youā€™ll realize there are a lot of ways this meta branch can go, and hardly none of it is preferable for Blue Dragon.

Fool is a thing, and this version of Jester is so much worse for BD than Jester was for Town in ToS. Being unable to lynch for 2 whole days hurts only BD for the most part. Fools getting lynched is not an uncommon occurrence as roles in ToL are generally hard to prove. VFRing will literally come to a halt once the Fool is lynched.

Iā€™ve been watching people try to VFR down the list 1-16 in this game and have watched it not be terribly effective. By all means VFR when it comes down to the final people or if somebody is acting particularly scummy, but if you randomly choose someone and they turn out to be the most important role of the game, you might consider choosing your trials more carefully.

thatā€™s sketches contribution.

I was just saying that what you did was not a contribution in any sense, not what you said before.

another reason VFC gets bad reputation is because someone will try to start one correctly (follow the leads) and others will say ā€œwhy donā€™t we start with you?ā€ which is the wrong way to do it.

Another reason is scum often try to start the bad way to VFC (going from 1-16), and after executing these players, people will have their anti-VFC opinions reaffirmed.

  1. As stated. Voting for Classes is a lazy way of playing the game.
  2. As stated. Voting for Classes puts your faction at danger against a smart scum.
  3. As stated. Voting for Classes puts your Prince/Sheriff/Paladin at risk of Decide Fate.
