Ici’s gigantic rant:
The OP has the right idea in a lot of cases but the completely wrong soloutions to every single one.
Conversion in this game is in fact still a bad mechanic. While yes there is a lot that makes conversion’s negative impact very undamaging I find that the game would be so much better if instead it was totally reworked to not include conversion.
"But Ici conversion is the point of ToL!"
Okay, first things first, let me explain that while you may be right that it is, I think it’s a bad point. Mafia is a game about spotting people acting strangely and trying to determine who the liars are. If you spot a liar, you should be rewarded for it, and if you stay hidden, you should be rewarded for that.
With conersion in the game, it’s possible for someone to be punished for spotting a liar. That’s the nitty gritty of it, a player who’s having an absoloute blast playing as town can be converted and (annoyingly) usually gets lynched soon after for being obviously converted, because their play style shifted too quickly. That’s all. You can’t argue that any game where you can be punished for playing correctly or rewarded for playing badly is a good mechanic.
I want conversion gone from ToL, but you’d need a lot of mechanical reworks to make the game still work, but it’d be worth it. I get it, you need a USP, and a unique reason to play ToL, but hte diversity and power of the abilities is good enough.
ToL is townsided as hell, and the winrates are only balanced because most BDs are bad
Forum of Lies is the example. It’s very simmilar to ToL in design, albeit with some notable differences, and here’s the thing: The game is incredibly BD-sided. Is that because the changes are townsided? No! We’ve done a lot to make the game favor evils more, and yet, with just a slightly more coordinated BD, the game is incredibly difficult to win as evil. There’s no root cause, it’s just that at the moment ToL is unbalanced, and when players somehow learn to play the game properly, the imbalance will rear it’s ugly head.
That’s why the OP sees playing evil as not fun, because if BD get lucky and manage to accidentally coordinate their actions in such a way that the evils are going to die immediately.
General class changes listed in the OP
All of them are ew, yet they have reasons behind them. All of them are in an attempt to make the game more evilsided but they all do it in the wrong way; by nerfing the hell out of BD in unfun ways. Buff evils and make every evil class have a rock solid fakeclaim. That way, it’s all about spotting why their actions don’t make sense, and not why their actions are impossible.
