When the alpha will be out?

When alpha for players will be out?

i believe it will be out in October but im not sure

Most likely Nov or Dec - depending on a few things  it’s alpha, so we know it doesn’t have to be perfect, but we want at least a smooth experience to start! And enough people - be sure to tell your mates~

If they sign up before 9/7 they still have a chance to get the game FREE - forever.

Is it still free for us who signed up early?

Yep! If you signed up during the “Veteran Status” promotion, you’ll get access to the game for free.

Our Kickstarter campaign is set to begin on January 9th, and will run for 45 days. Alpha access will be at the end the kickstarter campaign, but it’s possible we’ll have it during the campaign. It depends on progress up to that point.

Not 100% sure if i signed up in time, can u check if “tacoman” will get it free? Thx a bundle!

To update this thread, Alpha will come out Q1 2017 with the exact date TBD (it could be earlier). We’re using Unity’s new multiplayer system, and the last part is a bit more challenging than we thought  apologies for the delay!

if the delay makes a better game then its worth it

Absolutely. Without the delay, you’d have no friends, no lobby and would have to crash the game to start a new one ;D

As someone who just started the multiplayer coding on my own game (Unity too, ftw); you definitely can’t rush these things. In mine, I’m between the part deciding whether to peer2peer and not worry about cheaters too much, or have a peer be the designated host and suffer the extra ping. It’s a mobile game, so ping correction is going to be annoying :[

TFW you code too much and automatically place semi-colon after parenthesis… lol

Hey I’m curious, have you looked much at UNET vs Photon yet?

I need to make a Developers discussion section one day in the forum

Yeah, I looked at both as an alternative to Google Play’s matchmaking because GPG bottlenecks too much under Unity, not enough customizability for my tastes (especially for a mobile game). I’m sticking with it for the time being just to get the multiplayer framework up and running then plan on building own server. While I looked at many solutions, I’m generally wary of paying for services, UNet & Photon included, due to the fact that the better your game does, the more you’ll end up having to pay. I figure that the best solution, especially at our age (We are all <30 I believe, right?) is to build own server from ground up, have full customization, and scaling is all dependent on the hardware you end up buy/paying for. Sure, it’s much harder, but at the same time, the experience gained from it is invaluable, from beginning creation into maintenance; plus we aren’t locked into a plan with a service.

If you are looking for a neat solution, you could try checking this out: it’s a purely unity-run server

Note: I have not used this, but I definitely want to check it out sometime in the future.

Wow lol, I’ve been there when I was working in Unity on a project about a year ago. I’ve even dreamed code a few times.

Wish I discovered this new-ish engine called Godot before I started this project… 80% in, can’t really turn back now.

Same time, it costs $40 for a wee bit more work, rather than the hundreds for the other options. I’ll probably buy it sometime soon just to tinker and see its capabilities.

Jak, I looked into your sign up date, and it looks like you signed up after our deadline we set to get Veteran Status and the game for free. It was a temporary promotion. Luckily, the game will be less than $10, so it would be easier to save up for than most games

[insert Godot’s theme because the youtube video isn’t working for some reason]
