What happened?
Look the title. For example, if you type “screw that town” it will be replaced by “screw that BD”.
Comments:
Looks really strange.

It’s not a bug. It was set a while ago.
But why?
You need ask Devs about it. I guess it’s because a good guys are “Blue Dragon” not just “Town”.
Basically it is an attempt to force proper verbage
I don’t like it but eh
Really can’t understand the reason…
Cause the bd arent town they are the loyal subjects
Ok, I’ve never thought of calling BD people a “town” though.
It’s not a bug
It’s been there for some time
Basically in short, a large percentage of Throne of Lies userbase comes previously from a game called town of salem.
In Town of Salem, The factions were
Town (the uninformed majority)
Mafia and coven as the evil factions.
When most of the players came from town of salem, they kept calling things the same name they were in ToS. So to say they were a good guy in the majority group they’d say “I’m town”.
The dev’s basically said that leads to confusion, for say the 25% of people in whom this is the first social deduction game they’ve played, and thus they did massive auto corrects towards town of salem terms that new players whom did not play town of salem may not know, and thus add an extra learning curve towards players, ones which would look kind of strange to put terminology from a different game into their tutorials.
At least they stopped on the one that did cause the most problems IMO. (town of salem called what we call journal/logs a “will”, obviously autocorrecting “will” to journal caused quite a bit of confusion “Journal you just be quiet!”.
Honestly the word ‘scum’ should be autocorrected to evil and ‘scumread’ should be autocorrected to Evil Read, because I use Mafia terminology all the time in ToL and nobody understands me.
I like it because I don’t have to change how I type about Mafia games and everyone will understand me.
Nice explanation, thank you. I personally have never played Town of Salem, only heard about it. “I’m town” would really confuse me, but “will” is pretty understandable.
“Role” is also changed to “Class”
This seems like a really hamfisted implementation to me, and I don’t know why it’s in the game. There are a few examples like this.
“A guy in my town got a role in the doctor strange movie.” Nope sorry you’re not allowed to say that.
I’d much rather see them just make it a soft rule that you don’t call things by their corresponding names in other games, but stick to in-game terms. Give people a soft warning if they keep saying “i’m town check my will” etc. Mangling the chat just so those people can keep saying Town forever and not have it affect the game seems like an odd solution.
do you have any idea how hard it is for me to not call BD town
I’m used to using Mafia terminology, so ToL autocorrecting me is fine tbh
New players to the genre won’t know any of those ToS or mafia terms, so because players didn’t care about making those people’s lives easier, we did and added this.
Not a bug.
