Basically Grand Idea started from just a rolemadness setup where the rolelist was so big that balance could not be guaranteed
Then it evolved to a setup where the rolelist is made by the players
so it grew even more chaotic

It’s a semi open setup where the entire rolelist is a dedicated thread to which anyone can add what they want.
It’s known for being incredibly strange, unbalanced, and kinda fun if the mod knows what they are doing

actually grand idea is just a general name for a setup where the roles are all created by the site’s playerbase and placed into a thread long before the game begins, then the moderator pulls them out of said hat and makes a setup from it.

it is 100% gaurenteed to be unbalanced and terrible in every way, and I 100% endorse it.

FoL is a setup of extreme rolemadness balanced around two cultlike scum factions and a third-party killer
it is extreme rolemadness because roles often have 3+ abilities, as example:

The Mercenary :fire:

Neutral Support
Failure (Passive) - If your targets both die, you will commit suicide.
Saviour (Day) - If one of your targets is voted for execution today, take their place. - 1 use
Stand Guard (Night) - Prevent non-conversion abilities from targeting one of your targets. In addition, you are death immune this night. - 4 uses :crown: [if target is king]
Your objective is to ensure that at least one of your targets remains alive until the end of the game. Your targets are [x] and [y].

The Mercenary’s targets will always be convertible Blue Dragon classes, Neutral Killer or starting Cult/Unseen.
