My personal take on shapeshifter + survivor is that it’s anti-fun
The power balance between the two needs to have the survivor actually being able to not get absolutely destroyed for existing (since it cannot claim), and shapeshifter needs to not be able to be sniped
You could for all intents and purposes consider it as Inq vs Sorcerer
Inq vs Sorcerer historically fucking sucked as a dynamic since BD does the majority of the job
Survivor wants shapeshifter to die
Shapeshifter can claim at any point (and probably will in order to avoid shots)
Now the survivor just has “fun” for the rest of the game
yeah that sounds about right, and including anti-snipe stuff is… yikes
I kinda changed my mind
Shapeshifter optimally always claims immediately since anybody contesting the claim is usually either scum or the survivor
And surv has no means to feasibly stop that
yeah but it’s not ideal is it
not a very fun dynamic
shapeshifter without survivor probably works though
Not sure
I think it might work, but I think the problem with the role comes up again
Instantly claiming is the most viable way to play the role and there’s no way to realistically contest it
If it force rolls another neutral, then if that neutral doesn’t have anyway to stop a shapeshifter claim, it becomes a nightmare
Actually both Inq vs Sorc and Survivors in general are pretty fun to play
In long form games, my take is no
It’s a personal preference thing
In tol my favorite class of all times is Alchemist. Aka survivor.
My second favorite class is old Inquisitor (new Inq is cool too, but the older was cooler)
i more than anyone am equipped to explain why alchemist is not a good role for FoL
considering where this old title comes form, after all
I wasn’t around back then but I believe that most of the issues people had with Inq vs. Sorc were that it wasn’t fun for the Sorc
Uh… you mean that for real? Sniping the Inq was fun. And if you are really worried about your wincon… just step up as evil king.
every role is fun when you get lucky with it. the fact that somebody has had fun with a role does not mean it wasn’t unfun for the majority of players.
imagine being a neutral with like a 70% winrate
old inq was dumb
Why lucky?
Fun has nothing to do if you actually won or not
objectively false
winning will always feel better than losing, but that doesn’t mean that losing has to feel terrible
Okay let’s say it different:
it’s completely irrelevant for me personally if I won or lost.
