The nomination mechanic is designed to make the players think more carefully about who they vote on and keep the day activity from being consolidated in the hands of one or two influential players. Only being able to nominate once per day means that you need to have a specific target in mind, and not just use the vote as a means to force claims, like some games…
Also, abilities like the Virgin or Witch (a character from Sects and Violets) directly interact with nominations, and trying to change how that mechanic works would be quite the pain.
