True. But abilities which determine the class of a player are classified as investigative. So it is logical that an ability which has to do with the reveal of a player’s class is investigative (and one which messes with this is anti-investigative).
An again it’s only value is in it’s effect on the chat. Just like with every other chat manipulation in the game it’s effect begins and ends with how people react to it unlike with for example: Debauchery which can have an effect on who lives, who dies, who gets healed ect.
It’s not a chat manipulation. At least not a direct one. Trollboxes, Distracts, Chills, Conduits and Telepathies are chat manipulations. Calling a defile a “chat manipulation” makes as much sense as calling Prince execution a “chat manipulation” just because people will “chat” about it the next day.

Okay but the logic still doesn’t make sense. Just because in some situations an ability can be ignored with little to no impact on the game doesn’t have anything to do with how social it is. Because that logic would make many other abilities “social”. A physician can ignore the “You were poisoned but immune” notification with no consequence. Do you want to say Nightshade is therefore a social ability?

Sheriff investigations are “investigative” abilities. Defile would therefore be either investigative or support or special.
But not social.

Imagine you are poisoned and get drugged without getting healed. Suddenly Drug has made a huge impact on the game by revealing a phys has been converted, as well as the Herbalist losing a use of Drug. And if there is only one healer claim in the entire claim there is no ignoring your impending death.
So your logic can still be used to prove Nightshade is “social”.

EDIT: Oh you mean the morning reveal of a dead player’s class. But still class revelations are in general investigative and clearly not social.
Class flips are an investigative feature, since they do exactly what Probe (investigative ability) does except the feedback is public. Class flips are literally public probes on all dead people.
