The question was actually meant seriously…
If you think about “how to promote it” then you first have to think about “how much exactly would be ideal”
Limited feedback
That was a serious response
It’s clear from the game’s own support material that social deduction is intended to be the primary focus of play
Stop confirming butlers/drunks/physes/chrono should as non-mm plz
But how much is that? 40% mechanics/60% social ?
More than current?
Everyone is going to have a different answer to percentages, but it’s clear that the current is less than intended and less than ideal.
It will never happen, but it would improve the game vastlu
Too much ToL gives much smaller time to make reads like in Forum Thats Why Forum version wont work in game with 5 min per day
Nobody is arguing to port FoL to ToL
That would obviously not work
Force them to play forum matches and then they learn how to play properly
I way better at ToL after playing forum games.
I thought of it as limited Feedback being one of the main difference between Fol And ToL other than time that is And trials but they dont matter
Having played a limited-feedback RTSDG before, I can confirm they work fine
The issue with going full into that in ToL is that it’s such a wildly complex game with such powerful roles that missing feedback can make things confusing and inaccessible
The flip side of this is low claimspace and making a lot of things that shouldn’t be partially investigative, which isn’t necessarily any better for the game (see early ToL for a great example of this being much worse than the alternative)
I think matching some feedback reduction with some decrease in complexity will work wonders towards making social-based deduction an important part of finding scum.
I mean wouldnt it make BD much weaker than they are in current state I mean technically We could nerf scum but I guess Its really hard for me to see game that fast phase And doesnt have mech Feedback
It’s not something that can be expressed purely quantitatively because mechanics and social play complement each other
This apparently didn’t send for some reason
Exactly. There has to be some kind of balance.
So, on which way can we promote social deduction while not making the mechanics part less valuable?
Make investigatives less common.
- Merge Sheriff and Paladin. I’ve been suggesting this for a while, but it would really help the social deduction aspect
- Make the factions more different. Right now the only real difference is with their member count, but making them more separate would encourage players to figure out which faction it is.
- Make the power scaling more balanced, especially among BD. Right now there are quite a few classes that have a significant power difference(specifically prince and observer), which results in the less powerful classes not adding much to the discussion.
- Reduce confirmability among BD classes. IDK exactly how to do this, but you could start by merging the jail and occupied message. I still don’t get why they undid this.
The issue with removing extra feedback is that classes would be boring if you removed them. All classes need some sort of info so they’re not just an extra vote during discussion.
But conversely this makes the discussion less interesting and more boring.
And as the game’s own website will tell you, that’s supposed to be the main part of the game.
Also holy shit welcome back
I mean, less feedback means that less information is around. Which means you would need to be social to get more info
