The reason this is the case is that as I was informed by DatBird, unlike FE 6 / 7 / 8 where the loser of an arena duel dies, in FE 4 / 5, the loser of an arena duel survives with one hit point. Since hit points arenā€™t a thing here, the loser will just survive while the winner gets goodies.
