Even if they’re scum, the knowledge that they’re basically lynchproof with Derps alive is useful, since it stops us from putting them up only to waste it on Derps.

See, maybe it’s because I’m new, but I would think of it more as “we could use the day to hang someone else sketchy and then have prince grab the scummy Merc contract”.
